Guidelines

Dataset - original sources

Please always remember to be in possession of (or have access to) the original data, on which the creation of dataset in STATA or SAS is based. Potential problems in relation to, for example, date, time or definition of variables are best solved if the data managers have access to the original data material.

Please note that the original data material may have passed between different systems or programmes before you receive it: The original data material may have been collected in MS Access, processed in SPSS and passed on to the researcher in Excel format.

In order to carry out the best possible data cleansing, error recovery and preparation for analysis, data material should be as close to its source as possible – or, alternatively, it should be possible to obtain the material directly from its source.

The Danish Data Archive

On completion of the data processing and publication of a research project involving empirical data, such data must be submitted to the Danish Data Archive (in Danish: “Dansk Data Arkiv” (DDA)).

The data managers provide help in relation to preparation, data cleansing and documentation in accordance with the rules of the Danish Data Archive.
