SEE THE PHOTOS: New network joins forces to advance women’s health

The Women’s Health Research Network was officially launched with talks, poster presentations and a panel discussion. The day highlighted both the major gaps in our knowledge and how much we can achieve when we work together across disciplines.

Women and men. Doctors and anthropologists. Nurses and associate professors. Midwives and politicians.

A diverse group of professionals with different areas of expertise and interests came together for the launch of the Women’s Health Research Network on 1 October.

The network was established at the initiative of a large group of researchers at the Faculty of Health, or, as Head of Department Michael Baggesen Klitgaard put it in his welcome address:

“It emerged as a force that simply could not be held back.”

The breadth of the network was reflected in the day’s programme. There were presentations on pain, public health, pharmacology, foetuses, genetics and forensic medicine. Participants heard about everything from biological mechanisms to femicide.

Member of the Danish Parliament and spokesperson on women’s health Camilla Fabricius (Social Democrats) gave an inspiring keynote focusing on the importance of independent research and the role of research in closing the health gap between women and men.

The event itself already sparked promising ideas for shared cohorts and future collaborations.

The launch took place in Byauditoriet. See the programme here.
